I am not the first to stand footless
on a billion pounds of empty space
I know in history
Somebody found themselves here
The skins ached
from the bodies
shrinking up inside
Somebody else wised up
They closed their eyes and grew into the fishes
But I was born among rocks
I remember that they taste like
Sharp salt
A grain against somebody's teeth makes somebody scared to bite
reminds somebody of pennies hidden in somebody's cheeks
I remember knowing how far I could fall
Just to the tops of the rocks and no further
I am not the first to stand footless
on a billion pounds of empty space
I remember what the rocks taste like
I don't want to die in the ocean
